Nobody wants to go home in a cluttered house. Once you have your own place, you can’t help but make sure that every part of the room, including the garage or any area surrounding the house, are clean and tidy. But there are others, especially those who recently got their own place, have a hard time keeping up with house chores that they don’t know where to start and how to go about it.

Doing household chores does not involve rocket science or a special set of skills in order to get it done. Although it may be difficult at first, doing chores can be simple and easy especially when you start to get a hang of it. Nonetheless, below are the five basic chores every homeowner should know and some tips on how to do these chores more effectively.

1. Cooking

Cooking your own meals has a lot of benefits. First, it cut down your expenses since you don’t have to spend money on gas and expensive meals. Second, home-cooked meals are healthier since you can control the number of ingredients that you will include in your recipe. Plus, the servings will not be compromised since you can make as many as you want without depriving yourself.

And lastly, cooking can be a great way to bond with your husband or other members of the family since it will need some helping hand too.

2. Doing the Laundry

This is also an important chore because clothes are important for everyday living. And clothes can accumulate different bacteria too, hence the need to wash it.

Again, doing your own laundry can also help you save money because you don’t have to avail of expensive laundry services that charge on a per kilo basis.

3. Mopping the Floors

Floors are probably the dirtiest part of the house since it is constantly stepped on. Areas that are heavily used have much more bacteria compared to the other rooms with lesser people going in and out of the house.

In order to prevent germs from multiplying in number, keep your floors clean by sweeping it at least once a day and mopping it more than once a week. There are various antibacterial products that you can use when mopping the floors.

4. Cleaning the Bathroom

Probably the most hated chore, cleaning the bathroom is very important especially when it comes to hygiene purposes. Imagine the bacteria that go inside it every day so as much as possible, clean the bathroom once a week.

Ensure that the shower or tub area and the bathroom counters are clean by scrubbing it using cleaning aids. Toilets should also be cleaned and disinfected because of millions of bacteria inside them. Wipe the mirrors using old newspapers since this is more effective than any fabric.

Also, organize the drawer or cupboards according to classification. This will help you easily check whether there is a need to buy toiletries such as tissue paper, shampoo, or soap.

5. Taking Care of the Bedroom

After a long day at work or school, the next thing you want to do is to go home and lie down on your bed. Hence, cleaning the bedroom is one of the household chores you should know. Like any other chore, taking care of your bedroom is not a difficult task to handle. You just have to make sure that you make the bed, fold the blanket, fix the pillows, and put away all the dirty clothes in the laundry basket. You will also have to sweep the floor, clean the windows, or dust the dresser and tables inside your room. You should also learn how to organize the things inside your room.

Organize your work desk or study table so that when you feel like working or studying, the desk is clean. And at least once a month, make it an effort to tidy your closet.

Every part of the house needs a different treatment when it comes to cleaning. Although these five chores are the basic ones, it does not follow that it should be limited to these five only. As a homeowner, it is very important to maintain a clean house in order to prevent bacteria from spreading. By maintaining a checklist on what needs to be done, doing chores will be as easy as 1-2-3. And of course, nothing feels better than going home to a house that is clean and uncluttered.
